Asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) can be found in a large number of vessels, offshore platforms and other marine assets. Under the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), ships built prior to 1st July 2002 that contain asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) must effectively manage their asbestos.
Under the SOLAS chapter 2-1 amendment in December 2000, ships built between 1st July 2002 and 1st January 2011 are prohibited from installing new ACMs except for:
