What is Soils Chemical Testing?

Soil Chemical Testing tests your aggregates and soils for contaminants and helps to determine whether your soils can be reused or remediated depending on the results giving you the ability to make informed decisions.

Chemical analysis of soils is essential to ensure that contaminants that could potentially be harmful to health are not missed and become a risk to people or the environment. Soils Chemical Testing helps to determine how any remediated waste may behave in landfill. This type of testing is known as WAC Testing.

What is WAC Testing?

Waste Acceptance Criteria (WAC) testing is used to determine how a waste will behave once it's buried in a landfill. It is important to note that WAC testing cannot be used to determine whether a waste is hazardous or not. Contaminated Land Inspection and Testing should be used to determine if a soil contains contaminats or not.

What are my responsibilities?

Under the Land Contamination: Risk Management guidance, it is a legal requirement that the ‘responsible person’ i.e. the land owner or person responsible for causing the contamination takes steps to either manage the contamination or remediate to prevent further risk to life and the environment. This also includes if you are a producer of waste where you have a duty to identify and manage your waste disposal from your site to landfill. This includes ensuring that your disposal contractors are ensuring the delivery of your waste to the allocated landfill site.

If you suspect your land could be contaminated with a hazardous substance or you are unsure, our team of Environmental Consultants can conduct initial desktop studies to assess the likelihood of contamination in your land prior to contaminated land survey and testing works, helping you to manage your project costs.

Our knowledge of the issues surrounding the risk management and legal compliance of hazardous materials in soils gives our commercial clients complete reassurance throughout their project, with real time visibility of all hazardous materials and all risks. At the heart of everything we do is ESG (Environment, Social & Governance) and for Lucion, success means a positive impact on people, planet and prosperity.
