The cleanliness of a water system is a crucial way for the Duty Holder / Responsible Person to reduce the chance of bacteria proliferation by removing all potential nutrients within a system for bacteria to strive.
HSG 274 recommends that inspections of cold water storage tanks and calorifiers are carried out to determine the internal condition of these plant items; these inspections may result in the requirement for clean and disinfections. Disinfection may also be necessary for any positive samples that have been collected from the water system.
Lucion Services can provide clean and disinfections by draining down the required system, removing all contaminants and chemically dosing the system ensuring a thorough process has been carried out. In accordance with HSG 274, samples should be collected after a disinfection to ensure the process has been successful. Samples should be collected between 2 and 7 days after disinfection, any sooner can provide a false negative as there could be significant amounts of residual chemical within the system affecting the sample analysis.
