EU SRR Compliance Assessment

For ship recycling facilities residing outside of the European Union, in order to be able to accept ships flying the EU membership flag, the facility must be EU Ship Recycling Regulation (EU SRR) Compliant. Our hazardous materials Consultants conduct gap analysis and provide advice, recommendations and action plans to help our clients achieve compliance with EU SRR regulations.

What is EU SRR Compliance?

Developed with input from the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and its members, the 2009 Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships was created.

The impact of poor ship recycling decisions has been heavily documented over recent years. To combat this negative impact on individuals and the environment, the European Union adopted the Hong Kong Convention 2009 early (in 2013) under the EU Ship Recycling Regulation (EU SRR). This means that for ship recycling facilities that fall outside of the European Union, certain standards for The Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships must be met in order to achieve compliance with regulation (Regulation EU 1257/2013).

Once the criteria are achieved, facilities can be considered for inclusion on the 'European List', allowing them to receive vessels for recycling that carry the flag of European Member States.
