Lucion supports refugees with a donation to aid education and digital connectivity

22 October 2021

Lucion Services is lending a helping hand to East Yorkshire based Charity Smile Foundation by donating laptops for their ‘Dost’ project - their wellbeing, befriending, and signposting portal for the Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities.

The ‘dost’ project is set up to offer friendly support and help reduce the health and wellbeing inequalities that have exacerbated the impact of Covid-19 on the BAME community.

Lucion’s donation will go to two refugee women to help in their education following their recent enrollment in a local college.

Bibhash Dash (pictured, right), BAME Wellbeing Coordinator at the Dost project, received the laptops on behalf of the beneficiaries from Lucion’s Head of Accounts, Chris Wilson (pictured, middle) and Account Manager, Charlotte Lovewell (pictured, left).

Bibhash Dash passed on the laptop to both women, who were thrilled and grateful for Lucion's donation. Bibhash said on behalf of the Dost project:

"The Dost project is incredibly thankful to Lucion Services for their kind donation of 2 laptops. These devices have been donated for use by 2 of our refugee beneficiaries living in the North East.

"Digital accessibility is one of the most important areas of support that gets forgotten about when it comes to refugees and asylum seekers.

"Our beneficiaries are excited at this opportunity to improve their access to education.

"On behalf of everyone at Dost and the wider HEY Smile Foundation we cannot give enough thanks to Lucion for this amazing gesture."

Lucion Services’ head of Accounts Chris Wilson said:

“We are pleased to be making our small contribution to helping the Smile Foundation’s Dost project. Education is fundamental to rebuilding lives and we are pleased to offer the digital tools to enable learning for those who will benefit greatly from it.

“From everyone at Lucion, we would like to wish both women all the very best for their future studies.”

Tool Box Talk: Asbestos Awareness

As part of Lucion’s Take Care Be Aware initiative, we actively take care of our health and safety responsibilities, with continuous awareness of our commitments to knowledge share and educate.

In doing so we have created a ‘toolbox talk’ on asbestos awareness to raise awareness of the hazards associated with asbestos-containing materials, enabling safety professionals to share knowledge and overall save the time and effort in producing them for you and your teams.

Asbestos Is Schools White Paper

With widespread concern over the potentially harmful effects of asbestos in schools, modern air sampling and analytical techniques have the ability to better protect the health and safety of teachers and pupils. There is no safe limit of asbestos for people to breathe and we want everyone with a responsibility for safety in our schools to better understand the situation.

The white paper has been designed to provide important information to those who manage asbestos in buildings, in particular those who are responsible for the maintenance of the property and teachers.
