Lucion Services and Delta-Simons runners exceed their fundraising targets for Cambridge Half Marathon Marathon

18 October 2021

Congratulations to the Delta-Simons & Lucion Services runners for not only successfully completing the Cambridge Half Marathon but exceeding their fundraising target by over 200%.

17 employees of all levels of fitness completed the challenging run yesterday and collectively as a team raised over £2,000 for the chosen charity partner Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK) - an incredible charity that is working to reduce the effects of dementia through research.

Our charity partner ARUK was selected based on personal links to our people within the business. The UK's leading dementia research charity is dedicated to causes, diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and cure of dementia.

Both Lucion Services and Delta-Simons believe that we have a responsibility to foster positive social and environmental progress. An integral part of this is supporting local community events, which includes our three-year commitment to the Cambridge Half Marathon.

Therefore, as a group, we are immensely proud of our staff for an incredible achievement that demonstrates our shared values of supporting a range of community projects and sports activities promoting healthy living and enjoyment of the outdoors.

“When the opportunity arose to be part of the Cambridge half marathon team I immediately jumped at the chance to put my hat in the ring. It’s been 8 years since I trained and ran my first half marathon, so I knew what I was letting myself in for. The chosen charity Alzheimer’s Research UK is close to me and my family as we have experienced the wonderful support that they provide.”

- Nick Aspinall, Operations Director, Lucion Services

“Alzheimer's Research UK is a fantastic charity and being able to help it in some small way made my mind up for the run. I hope that we can go on supporting Alzheimer's Research and that they can continue helping many others.”

- Larne Fuller, Area Director, Lucion Services

Our partnership with Cambridge Half Marathon

Our three-year commitment to the Cambridge Half Marathon is in partnership with OSB Events - the organiser and promoter of the event in Cambridge which sees Delta-Simons, as the Sustainability Partner of the Cambridge Half Marathon and as a specialist environmental consultant, to develop an Environment and Social Governance (ESG) Strategy for the Cambridge Half Marathon.

Our partnership ensures that the event continues to evolve to include the highest possible ESG standards set out in the ESG policy and makes a positive contribution to Cambridge and the wider environment. It also gives us the opportunity to work with all of the event partners, including Cambridge University.

As part of the partnership, Delta-Simons is supporting a number of initiatives which includes, working with Greater Cambridge Waste and the City Council Streetcare Team to ensure a closed-loop recycling scheme for the plastic cups at the event, installing clothing bins on Midsummer Common to donate leftover clothing items to charity, and providing reusable goodie bags to reduce the event’s carbon footprint.

“As the MD of Delta-Simons, I am delighted that we’re the Sustainability Partner for the Cambridge Half Marathon. A number of the team have sadly been personally impacted by Alzheimer’s or other age related diseases, so the work of our chosen charity partner ARUK for this event is a cause close to all of our hearts.

“Personally, I like the fact that ARUK is challenging the way that people think about dementia and funding the pioneering research to find a cure. This aligns perfectly with our company vision which is the desire to solve problems with the aim to create long term value.”

- Alex Ferguson, Managing Director, Delta-Simons

“We have been working informally with Delta-Simons for a few years. However, I am delighted that this year we have secured a formal 3 year partnership, which sees Delta-Simons as the Sustainability Partner of the Cambridge Half Marathon whilst continuing to support the growth of our Outlaw Triathlon Series.

“With the support of Delta-Simons we have committed to fully analysing  the environmental impact of all our events. Making use of the ESG Policy to set and achieve manageable goals.

“It was great to see Delta Simons & Lucion employees coming together to raise money for an important charity for them”

- Adam Moffat, Director, OSB Events part of CSM Sport & Entertainment

Our commitment to ESG

Delta-Simons, who are now part of the Lucion Services Group, prioritises Environmental Social & Governance (ESG) initiatives that add value to the society alongside the delivery of environmental expertise to our clients.

Whilst reducing negative environmental impacts is a vital aspect of Delta-Simons’ partnership with the Cambridge Half Marathon, the social value of the community event is of equal importance. Working with other partners on sustainability initiatives raises our brand profile and engages a wider range of stakeholders bringing benefits to local communities.

Lucion Services and Delta-Simons recognise the benefits of fundraising for such charities as a positive way of giving back to the communities that we work in.

“Delta-Simons supports the Cambridge Half Marathon in improving its Environmental Social Governance (ESG), so it was interesting to see first-hand what ESG practises were in place at such an event.

“I ran the Cambridge Half Marathon with a lovely group of colleagues from Lucion and Delta-Simons to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK I am a keen runner in my spare time and it was my first ever official race, so I jumped at the opportunity: I am planning on going back with the team for the March 2022 run too.

“It was also a fantastic opportunity to get to know people from other areas of the business, including some of our new Lucion colleagues. Overall, it was a fantastic day, a lovely run and a beautiful city!”

- Eloise Bull, ESG & ETS Graduate , Delta-Simons

Our support for Alzheimer's Research UK (ARUK)

Firstly, we would like to thank anyone who has supported us with a donation. Secondly, you can still show your appreciation for our fundraisers and contribute to what has been a tremendous effort by donating at the event’s Just Giving page - https://www.justgiving.com/team/DeltaSimons-Lucion-CambridgeHalf21.

“We would like to say an enormous thank you to everyone from Delta-Simons and Lucion Services who ran the Cambridge Half Marathon or supported their efforts by doubling their fundraising target to an incredible £2,107 (and counting!) for Alzheimer’s Research UK. The last year and a half has been hugely challenging for people affected by dementia and those working to find a cure, but this donation will help our scientists make up for lost ground. We’re now at a tipping point for dementia research, bringing hope to people living with dementia, their loved ones, and future generations to come.”

- Katy Abraham-Hall, Senior Regional Corporate Partnerships Officer at Alzheimer’s Research UK
