Lucion Services’ Head of Business Development, Kim Johnson, set to attend key supplier events in London with Platform Events UK.

10 March 2022

Head of Business Development at Lucion Services, Kim Johnson, has earned nearly 12 years of experience within the environmental industry. Starting her career as an Asbestos Surveyor/analyst,  Kim has gone from strength to strength, earning herself a reputation for taking the pain out of managing hazardous materials for our clients. In her role as Head of Business development, Kim leads a team of Business Development Managers and Executives, supporting them to effectively support our clients through the complex world of regulations and guidelines in hazardous material management.

As a well established member of the environmental sector, Kim will be attending this year’s Facilities Management and Estates two-day event at the luxury Riverside InterContinental London - the O2 Hotel, hosted by Platform Events UK, on the 17th and 18th March 2022.

About the Facilities Management and Estates Platform Event

Distinct from other networking and supplier events, Platform Events are designed to bring together Facilities Management Buyers and Suppliers in pre-selected, pre-booked, one-to-one meetings based on relevant business profiling. The format aims to reduce time and costs for both the buyer and supplier with both parties arriving at the event fully informed and ready to do business.

Benefits to buyers include;

  • Find new and innovative suppliers
  • Access to all supplier profiles
  • Tailored pre-selected meetings
  • Network with industry peers
  • 5* accommodation & catering

Kim commented on the upcoming event stating;

“The Platform Event format is a very productive and beneficial way of meeting a range of suppliers in a structured and well organised format. From a buyer perspective, the event reduces unnecessary cold emails, cold calls and requests for meetings with multiple potential suppliers of which the majority are rejected. Attending a Platform event gives buyers the space and time to take control of which suppliers they actually want to meet and do business with. For Lucion, this is the way we want to do business.

We aim to develop long-lasting sustainable relationships with our clients, new and existing. Forming the correct foundation for such a relationship by meeting interested buyers from day one is invaluable for us as a supplier.”

As a purpose driven organisation on a mission to protect people and the planet, events such as Platform UK provides us with an opportunity to think about and reduce our carbon footprint relating to marketing and cold emails.

Changing Habits to Reduce our Environmental Impact

According to Eco2 Greetings, sending an email can emit anywhere from 4 grams of CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalent) for a text based email to a staggering 50 grams of CO2e (that’s about 2 cups of black loose leaf tea). That may not sound like a lot however, with 53.6% of the global population (estimate 4.1 billion people) with access to the internet sending 333.2 billion emails per day in 2022 (according to Statista), the carbon emissions associated with sending an email quickly adds up.

As part of the Lucion Group, we are aware of our responsibility when we deliver our services, no matter what area of the business we operate in, and the direct impact we may have on the environment and our communities. Operating with our Environmental, Social and Governance goals at the heart of what we do, we have reviewed our current ways of communicating with new and existing clients and team members in order to reduce our carbon emissions.

We have vastly reduced the amount of marketing emails sent out to our mailing lists, discouraged our members from sending unnecessary emails such as ‘thank you’ emails and, through our Enterprise Resource and Planning (ERP) and Hazardous Risk Management software NexGen, all notifications and reports are delivered to clients as links.

According to energy company OVO (2019), if each UK adult sent one less 'thank you' email a day, we would collectively save more than 16,400 tonnes of carbon a year. That's equivalent to more than 81,000 flights to Madrid.

Lucion Group’s Chief Technical Officer Ross Boulton commented on our efforts in reducing our email related carbon emissions stating;

“The environmental impact that can be achieved through changing our habits is huge. Technology is enabling us, but it is dependent on the long-term commitment of companies and individuals and, in some cases, reducing the ways we can reach out to new clients, utilising different avenues to build foundations with our clients. The need to be proactive in adapting the way we drive is now more important than ever.

We are determined to see us further progress towards our ESG goals in 2022 and further invest in our 'beyond carbon neutral' objectives. Reducing our carbon impact by being more mindful of the emails we send and their necessity is another necessary step to reaching our carbon goals.”

We are determined to see a positive change in the landscape of our business. 2022 will see us invest in our 'beyond carbon neutral' objectives. By December 2022, we will not only have offset our current carbon production, but we'll also continue to limit our carbon production where possible, and aim to offset not only what's leftover, but an additional 50% of the output.
